My Dorky Valentine’s Day Quesitonaire

As I go about my week I have certain things that I make sure to check before doing anything of importance. One of those is dorkly.com – a super dorky comedic website that makes me smile when I’m feeling down.

For Valentine’s Day, dorkly.com had taken a survey with some very interesting video game questions all relating to LOVE. I found the questionnaire to be funny especially for those people who know how I fantasize over video game characters… maybe I’ll show you who I mean at a later date. But here I have what I would have said if given this survey. Take it yourself – see how you would have done compared to the masses!

All the percentages are based of the results found on the article!

God awful smell. But heavenly taste?

I love my friends – I am so happy to have found at least two people in this world who I can call my best friends. One of  them has developed an appreciation – I guess you can call it – to consume out of the ordinary cuisine. When we all go out we try our best to try different types of foods no matter how they look or feel … sometimes we are pleasantly surprised and other times … well it is always a 50/50 shot.

Recently my friend had seen a fruit on television that originates from Asia. Naturally she headed into Chinatown as soon as possible to seek out her curiosity. After a few hours of searching she was able to find one vendor who had three left – and 6$ later, she had her Durian.

This is it. A picture of the durian she bought right off her kitchen table…

CES : Microsoft Press Conference Thoughts

As I hope you know … since I project my readers to be mainly nerds like myself … these past few days have dedicated to bringing brought forth the newest electronics from all your favorite companies. Some of mine that I paid particular attention to was Microsoft, SONY, Samsung … but there are so many more.

The Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) runs from January 6th to the 9th in Las Vegas and  is the gathering point for all big electronics companies to show their stuff. Everything from Digital Imaging to Computer Hardware to Gaming. Basically everything that excites my nerd-follicles.

One of the first to kick of CES was the Microsoft. Their keynote mainly addressed all the success they have been having since the release of the the new Windows  phone, Internet Explorer 9, and the new design for the xbox 360 partnered with the Kinect system (which was debuted at this past year’s E3). I will give my views on the Kinect at a later date on another post.

If all else fails… HAIR and MAKEUP

This past few years in college I have been struggling with my future plans. I thought when I left high school I was so certain that I would be a math major and become and actuary… unfornuately although I do have a very scientific and analytical mind, high school math is no where near to college math. The idea of doing math for the rest of my life became less and less desirable as I took the classes.

A re-evaluation was in order. Had to strip my being to it’s core. What am I really? I am a girl that likes to understand how things work, to create things, to analyze data, and work collectively with other people with similar interests – all with an artistic flair. Looking at myself this way has made it evident that I want to now pursue computer science and study urban design and architecture. I think these two fields allow creativity with the math base that I have.

It has been a struggle for me, however good to know I have things to fall back on…

The other day one of my friends had a really important date. She had called me in to be her stylist. When I reached her apartment I had a whole bag loaded of clothes, hair tools, and make-up and I was ready to tackle this mission. I do not have sisters or any really close girly girl friends so I have always had to figure out hair and make-up on my own. But I am an artist in my own way. Maybe one day I will show you guys some of my artwork. Hair and make-up is just another way for me to express my artistic side. So it is good to know if all else fails … I could make a living doing this:

So pretty!

On my travels back home my friend and I stopped by Times Square which was pretty crazy still from the thousands of people that have traveled in for the holidays. Driving in the city is so nerve racking for me but I can tell I am getting better – from my increased level of road rage. But in those moments where I had to stop for a red light or a person j-walking I could take in the beauty of it all. I love New York city more than I can express. I hope I can continue to live here once I graduate. Every little crevice has something to offer – and through the garbage and the graffiti we still shine so bright.

The crossroads of the world.

May the COOKIES be with you!

One of my favorite gifts from Christmas morning came in a small rectangular box and was special ordered from Williams-Sonoma.

Now let me set this up by letting you know I make cookies all the time – specifically I make cookies that I can shape. I am obsessed with cookie cutters. I have only become really passionate about cooking within the past two years but I was introduced to the Williams-Sonoma catalog this past year. The amount of kitchen delights that I want from that catalog is unbelievable – Do I need half the stuff in there? – No. But do I still want a “Bodum Chambord French Press with Locking Lid” – YES!

Anyway while casually looking through the holiday catalog I had a huge geek-out. One where you realize that two different parts of life that excite you have now being combined.

This is what I had found… HERE

That is right people these are a variety of Star Wars related cookie cutters!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a Jedi Master Chef used the force to create dynamic gear for the kitchen. These amazing tools, known as “cookie cutters,” had the power to transform ordinary cookie dough into a delectable cast of galactic characters.

Williams-Sonoma does not mess around when it comes to kitchen quality. The cookie cutters have a spring-loaded stamp that give incredible detail to the cookies. This set has four different cutters:

  • Darth Vader,
  • Boba Fett,
  • Yoda,
  • and a Stormtrooper

Last night I gave these babies a run. Unfortunately since most placed were closed by the time I decided to do this, I was not able to get the ingredients for the icing but the cookies came out just fine. Here they are, my pride and joy…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

“We will open the book. It’s pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and it’s first chapter is New Years Day.” – Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Have a healthy and happy new year. Try to follow one of my new year’s resolutions … just find happiness in everyday.

Pokemon Event – Black and White Tie

Not a Pokemon game has gone by that I have not played…

I remember last year going crazy trying to get the limited edition Jirachi from GameStop during the hype of Soul Silver and Heart Gold. This time around with the pending release of the latest installment of the series, GameStop has up the ante.

If you visit any participating GameStop between January 3rd through February 6th you can pick up a Shiny Raikou, Suicune, and/or Entei. Once you have one of them, and you pick up your copy of either Black or White you can transfer them over for the chance to capture the new rare Pokemon, Zoroark.

  • January 3rd – January 9th : Shiny Raikou
  • January 17th – January 23rd : Shiny Entei
  • January 31st – February 6th : Shiny Suicune

Zoroark is an illusion fox type Pokemon of the dark type and will only be available through this offer. As of this moment, I have no further information if he will be available in the future.

Here is the flyer I picked up; My source of all this information:

I really am looking forward to the new version. Not only will it come in handy on my morning commute but I have been hearing great things about it – like there are 156 new species of Pokemon to catch even before you unlock the entire game.

Pokemon Black and Pokemon White are scheduled to be released on March 6th.

I usually choose water type as my primary Pokemon but who knows maybe I will switch it up this year!

Best Black Ops Field Agent on TV

*MATURE  CONTENT

I have only a few shows that I legitimately get excited about on television. When I find a show I love I will not just DVR it to watch the next day … I will shift all my plans to watch the new episodes and the commercials that surround them. It was simply a coincidence that I stumbled across this one particular show – another late night cramming some homework and the university only has a limited amount of channels on its cable. So normally I wouldn’t find myself on FX but on this particular night my world was to change …

Anyway this comes up because I had to run out to Best Buy last night to pick up the first Season 1 of Archer on DVD

Suave secret agent Sterling Archer is the world’s most dangerous spy, but political intrigue and global crises are nothing compared to the sexual tension and human resources crises at the intelligence agency where he works. Archer must deal with his overbearing, oversexed mother – who is also his boss – and his femme fatale ex-girlfriend who seems to be sleeping with everyone except him. Embezzlement, mind control, hangovers and demented double crossings – they’re all in a day’s work in this outrageously raunchy animated comedy.

This series has a more mature theme but the sense of humor threading through every episodes just gets to my core. It has gotten so bad that I will make people sit down and watch every episode with me – not just to expose them to Archer – but rather so that whenever I was around say person I could quote the show and have them understand what I was talking about. About 9/10 times I would be able to at least crack a smile out of them because the show is just so undeniably memorable and funny.

I love every character and how in each episode there is always a good flow of a repeated theme. I want to be Lana Kane next Halloween because honestly I just find her to be so bad-ass. I am sure I will keep you guys updated with how I feel about the new episodes of Season 2 that will be airing in January.

Season 2 of Archer begins on January 27th at 10 PM on FX.

Hope you watch and let me know what you think!

Dear Santa … circa 2000
December 29, 2010, 3:43 am

Whilst cleaning around the house today during day number three of, “Heck NO, I am not going outside!”, I stumbled across a note I wrote to Santa. Mind you I am not sure why I was still believ… I mean … here is what I discovered:

Look at that penmanship and the Crayola blue marker gives it an extra winter-y touch. I just can not believe I simply asked Santa to get my brother something. Right now it seems so out of character for me to do but I guess I had a deep concern for my brother’s fifth Christmas.

You may ask: What the heck is a Poo-Chi?

Well during the time around when Furbies were the craze – several toy companies began making robot pets for the youth to feel like they were the coolest in town and parents would not have to buy their kids actual breathing, eating, and pooping animals for pets. Since “Tiger Electronics” was on a role with the whole Furby thing, they released these bad boys. This is what a “Poo-chi” looked like …

Fancy huh? I know. You know something is good when McDonald’s has mini replicas as Happy Meal prizes. Imagine what the 102 Dalmatians edition must have looked like. I believe I myself had a Poo-chi at this point so maybe I just wanted my little brother to experience the joy that I had experienced from my mechanical pooch.

I believe they sang and has pre-recorded “barks” which really only sounded like various beeps – which I get is because he is robotic. Enjoy.
